COVID
Confab25 will follow Berkeley Lab COVID guidelines in place at the time of the event. The information below reflects guidelines updated December 13, 2024.
Under Berkeley Lab guidelines, face coverings and distancing are not required for this event. Disposable masks for voluntary use will be available.
LBNL personnel must follow the Lab’s COVID-19 Protocols for LBNL Travel. Daily self-monitoring for symptoms is encouraged. Non-LBNL attendees can review the COVID Protocols for Visitors and Hosts and are encouraged to check for symptoms daily. The Lab also recommends that visitors follow CDC Travel Guidance.
In the event of a known COVID exposure during the meeting:
Organizers will notify attendees soon as reasonably possible.
Participants will be provided masks for the remainder of the meeting for indoor events.
Attendees who prefer can continue to participate via Zoom instead of in-person.
A summary of Berkeley Lab guidance on COVID exposure, as of 12/13/2024, is included below. Please refer to the Berkeley Lab COVID web site for full guidelines and resources.
Exposure to Someone who has COVID-19 or Tested Positive
Recommend masking through Day 10 and getting tested within 5 days, especially if you or those around you are at higher risk. (Day 0 = the date of exposure.)
Positive Test or COVID-like Symptoms
Wear a mask through Day 10 and take added precautions to minimize the spread of respiratory viruses. Inform supervisor and meeting organizers. (Day 0 = date of positive test or date symptoms started, whichever is earliest.)
If symptoms were present, return to onsite work or business-related travel is allowed when both of the following are true:
Symptoms have improved for at least 24 hours AND
There is no fever (and no fever-reducing medication) for a full 24 hours.
If you have no symptoms, return to work and business-related travel is allowed. There is no isolation period.
Earthquakes
The San Francisco Bay Area is earthquake country. To reduce the chance of incurring an injury in a building during an earthquake, Drop, Cover and Hold On until shaking stops.
Urban Safety
The Confab25 venue and central location provides easy access to many restaurants and popular destinations throughout the city of San Francisco that attendees may enjoy exploring in the evenings. As with any urban destination, especially popular tourist attractions like San Francisco, visitors are encouraged to be aware of their surroundings and belongings at all times.
San Francisco offers tips for visitors, and Confab25 participants can also ask hotel staff for suggestions about walking routes and transportation options.
