Transportation
Meeting attendees are responsible for their own travel arrangements.
Air Travel
San Francisco Bay Area is served by multiple major airports, including:
San Francisco International Airport (SFO) (closest to venue)
Note:
Visit the BART airport connections web page for information on connecting to/from SFO and OAK and downtown San Francisco by light rail.
Driving times to and from area airports can double or triple depending on time of day and traffic conditions.
Please verify the three-letter airport code to be sure you are selecting the airport you want. OAK, located in Oakland, is currently working to change its name from "Oakland International Airport" to "San Francisco Bay Oakland International Airport".
Interstate or California Rail
The nearest Amtrak stations are Berkeley, Emeryville, and Oakland across the San Francisco Bay (East Bay). An Amtrak shuttle bus to San Francisco may be available from some stations.
Local Transportation
Parking options in downtown San Francisco are very limited. Attendees are strongly encouraged to explore one of the many other local transportation options:
Bay Area Regional Transit (BART) is regional light rail that runs around the Bay, including to SFO and OAK airports. The nearest BART stop to the meeting venue is Powell Street Station. The hotel is about 0.5 miles (uphill) from BART.
San Francisco's Muni includes local bus and light rail to all corners of San Francisco. Numerous lines stop near the meeting venue.
The meeting venue is located along San Francisco's famous cable car lines! Note: If you plan to take a round trip on the cable cars in one day, it may be more economical to purchase a visitor pass mentioned below.
Muni also offers 1-, 3-, or 7-day visitor passes for unlimited rides, including on the cable cars.
CalTrain provides light rail service between San Francisco and destinations on the Peninsula and Silicon Valley.
AC Transit TransBay service includes commuter bus lines that run between some East Bay cities in Alameda County and the San Francisco Salesforce Transit Center at traditional commuter hours.
TNC/Rideshare, and Taxis
Bicycling: Bring your own bike to get around San Francisco (and a good lock!), or try out BayWheels bikeshare.
Scooters: Bring your own scooter, or try one of the local scooter shares, Lime or Spin.
Note: Local Public Transit Passes
Most local public transit such as BART, CalTrain, or AC Transit can be paid using a Clipper Card, available in digital and physical formats. Clipper is an all-in-one transit card that keeps track of any passes, and value that you load onto it, while applying all applicable fares, discounts and transfer rules. Find out more about how to get started with Clipper.
Parking
Bike Parking
ESnet is currently working with the meeting venue to identify recommended bike parking options.
Cars
Car parking options in downtown San Francisco are very limited. Attendees are encouraged to explore one of the many other local transportation options discussed above.
Fairmont San Francisco Hotel Garage is located on the corner of Powell and California Streets. Parking rates are typically $90 + tax for daylong or overnight parking.
Additional local public parking garages are available in the neighborhood. ESnet will identify additional nearby options prior to the meeting.
Parking on the street is not recommended during the meeting: metered time limits on street parking are strictly enforced.

Lawrence Berkeley National Lab Access
Visiting the Lawrence Berkeley National Lab campus in Berkeley, CA, requires advance permits and screening. Confab25 is being held across the Bay from the Berkeley Lab campus, and registration for Confab25 does not include Lab access.
If you would like to meet with Lab personnel at the Lab in Berkeley, please coordinate visitation access and permissions with your campus host. BART trains run from nearby the Confab25 venue (Powell Street Station) to the Downtown Berkeley Station; Lab visitors with access permission can then use the free Berkeley Lab Shuttle (Blue Line) from downtown Berkeley to the Lab.
See you in San Francisco!
